It's me...differently.
We're all different but the same (to some extents)...
As humans, we are God's potpourri of the world. We are aromatic and various but analogous just the same.
This song is a bridge between "Potpourri Part 1" and "Potpourri Part 2". What does it mean?
I wanted this song to nod to the realities of keeping a positive outlook, a straight face, a happy face, a calm tone, a set demeanor of social and private standard (s), an "it's okay", an "I'll be okay", an "Everything's going to be okay".
While these are all ideas that we can all adopt at various times, I wanted to voice the reality of the moments (or seasons) of self NOT being unified with these beliefs and ideas. What do you do then? Who sees you, then?
Believe, they said. Breathe, they said.
This is good and real but when your tears say otherwise, and you may not even be able to understand them, know that you're not alone and that we are all a potpourri - not designed to be stagnant but reactive beings with hearts and minds. Not all days and moments will be bright and sunny - even if the Sun is out. However, they all have their place and so do you.
P.s. Your tears can be your prayer if you can't express through words. Tears, just like laughter, cursing, screaming, fighting, calming, glaring, staring, stillness, etc. are a form of expression, too!
lyrics
Believe, they said
Breathe, they said
Your mind is calling you
But your heart is somewhere with the wind again
Verse
Don’t cry, they said
You’ll get by, they said
I’ve tried and tried but still
My tears have formed a language of their own
That just can’t be written down in into words
And if there’s any question of how I feel
Do you have more time?
To lend me your ear
Potpourri
Can’t you see?
It’s me
Differently
