Highway Robbery (Drum Break Take)

from Potpourri Part 1 by Erica Harrell

/

about

From the track "Highway Robbery" came this take. In this track, I am working and pushing through the ending section of "Highway Robbery". At first, the timing was challenging for me to catch, especially playing drums. The phrase was always longer than what I had played, leaving me behind. I decided to keep this extended take, keeping the metronome in the track because at the time, this was the most successful and expanded attempt. I strived to push through my barriers while recording and for the first time, I achieved it in this take.

I decided not to filter out the metronome because I wanted to maintain the rawness of the moment and convey it to the listener. I strived for the same by also not filtering out my occasional "ah's" in the far background.

I wanted to keep but share an intimate moment between God and I and express that even mistakes could be beautiful with perseverance and if given the chance. The challenge is worth pushing through.
